Meta hosts ‘Digital Suraksha for Teens’ roundtable in Pune

Reiterating its commitment to the wellbeing of youth, Meta today organized the ‘Talking Digital Suraksha for Teens’ roundtable in Pune, in partnership with 1M1B. The parent-educator forum was held to build parental awareness on Meta’s approach to online safety and share best practices to safeguard the wellbeing of teens engaged in the online world.

The session discussed ways of empowering parents to confidently manage their teens’ usage of smartphones and devices – including on Meta’s platforms, while also gathering insights from parents and educators on their feedback around teen usage of social media and other online trends. The roundtable was attended by a select group of educators and parents from 10-15 selected schools in the city to learn more about digital safety initiatives and discuss experiences of their teen’s social media journey. Meta also sensitized the attending parents and educators about the tools and features by Meta that can aid a safe social media experience.

Speaking on the occasion, Natasha Jog, Director, Public Policy in India, Instagram, said, “We believe parents and educators can play an integral part in a teen’s social media journey. Through a series of high impact conversations across India, we are sensitizing them around how their teens can meaningfully spend time online while staying safe.”

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the user safety ecosystem, Meta held the ‘Digital Suraksha Summit’ last year, which was built on a continuous endeavor to provide for a safe and balanced online experience for youth and women. Meta has also announced a two-year partnership with the Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology (ITBT), Government of Karnataka to empower students across schools and colleges, and educators on information, awareness and education on online safety and digital citizenship.

Over the past three years, Meta has launched 50+ safety tools and features to promote online safety. Recently rolled out features around teen safety include, ‘Night Nudges’, which encourages users to shut down the Instagram app when being used late at night, as well as ‘Quiet Mode’, which help give teen users more control over the time spent on Instagram and what they see. Further, with Instagram’s Parental Supervision feature, parents can view the accounts their child follows, the accounts that follow their children and be more involved in their online experiences. Meta’s ‘Family Center’ also provides parents and teens to find information on how to safely navigate the platforms.

CII and EHL Group Collaboration builds on the Two years of success of VET by EHL Swiss Professional Diploma delivered at AISSMS Pune

In a significant initiative for skill development in Indian hospitality undertaken by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), an 18-month Vocational Education and Training (VET) Professional Diploma program offered in collaboration by EHL Hospitality Business School of Switzerland and delivered at AISSMS, Pune. The program has now been running very successfully for the last two years with over 100 students on the verge of graduating and joining the industry.


This year, we plan to induct 100 students at our VET by EHL AISSMS Pune Centre and over all 400+ students including our Chandigarh and Bangalore Centre. The duration of the program is 18-months out of which they are given a sound grounding of theory and practical in their area of specialization. The training at AISSMS is followed by an Advanced Certificate program and on-the-job training for 12 months at Select IHCL hotels.

Mr. Praveen Roy, Advisor, Confederation of Indian Industry said: “The industry is poised for a 15-20% growth in hiring within the tourism and hospitality sector in India. CII, with its strategic tie-up with Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) and Academic partnership with EHL Hospitality Business School, trains a large number of students with the help of EHL-certified trainers who are also department managers. This program is truly by the industry and for the industry and the students.”

Hospitality employers find the workforce being supplied below the industry’s expectations. There is a definite need in India for globally recognized vocational training that can create a pool of talented hospitality professionals. The VET by EHL program help bridge the skill gap and strengthen India’s position as the global hospitality workforce supplier. It will train the youth to world-class standards for careers in the hospitality industry, including hotels, airlines, cruise lines, and the catering and travel industry, not only in India but around the world.

Dr. Sonali Jadhav, Principal, AISSMS College of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Pune who is a veteran in Hospitality Education and has written over 25 research papers in National and International Journals said: “We have been running VET by EHL Program for the last 2 years. The course content is very relevant to what is happening in the industry and the students, by the end of the course, are well prepared to join the industry and also excel in their field. The program is a unique training model in partnership with the industry, delivered partly at the AISSMS Institute and IHCL hotel premises and facilitated by industry experts, to prepare the youth for quality employment within the industry. Ms. Simone Grover, student of fourth Semester, BBA Logistics and Supply Chain Management, School of Ports, Terminal Management and Logistics stood first in the “Logistics and Freight Forwarding Category winning the gold medal. She will be representing India in the World skills competition at Lyon, France in September 2024. Ms. Tahesin Sutar, third year student of Beauty and Wellness school bagged bronze medal in the Skill-based hands-on challenge in skin/make up at the National round.

Pune based deep-tech startup Starkenn Technologies has signed an MoU with Shree Swami Samarth Tours and Travels) for providing ADAS system for their passenger fleet of multi-axle coaches .

The MoU was signed at a recent curtain raiser event held in Pune for Prawaas 4.0 . Prawaas is a multi-modal transport show organised by Bus and Car Operators Federation of India. Mr. Shashank Joshi, (Business Head) Starkenn Technologies and Mr. Kiran Desai, (Owner) Shree Swami Samarth Tours and Travels and (President) Pune Bus Owners Association were present during the signing of the MoU .

The program was designed in sync with this year’s theme ‘IP and the SDGs: Building Our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity’ with distinguished speakers, including Pro Chancellor SSPU Dr. Swati Mujumdar and CEO of AIC-SEED, IISER Pune Ms. Shweta Uttam, who shared their insights on the IPR’s role and significance in a Skill University.

Ms. Shweta Uttam, CEO AIC-SEED IISER shared her thoughts on how IP is connected to entrepreneurship. She said that the road from intellect to property goes through many steppingstones and routes like IPR and entrepreneurship. With 50% of our country’s population below the age of 25 years, universities need to tap the creative potential and support student-led innovation and start-ups.

Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Pro Chancellor, Symbiosis Skills and Professional University, encouraged the students to find solutions to industry problems considering that they are Students of a Skills University. She informed that the university has set up a large Incubation and Innovation Center to foster, promote and nurture students’ ideas in order to convert them into Patents. It is for this purpose that we have created an incubation center where ideas can be debated to come out with innovative products and solutions and college is the right time to do it.

Dr. Khushboo Bhurat Head IPR, highlighted the importance of student led Innovations. She informed that being a Skills University, Students have several innovative ideas and are naturally inclined to start their own companies. The University has created and environment to support and promote such ideas.

The World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated every year on 26th April and highlights the importance of intellectual property protection and to promote the role of IP in fostering innovation and creativity. This day is an occasion to raise awareness about the need for a balanced approach which takes into consideration the rights of the IP holders as well as its role in social well-being and public interest.

The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the University’s IPR policy and filling of 26 IPRs and Patents on the World IPR day. This  includes a complete framework and know-how about any innovation by students or faculty, its protection, implementation, processes, etc. The IPR policy was drafted by a team of legal experts and curated by a team of management and faculty members at Symbiosis Skills and Professional University.

Also, around 67 inventors including students and staff who have shown their interest in filing IPR in the form of patents, copyrights or novel designs were felicitated on the occasion. The students have shared their content which is in the process of scrutiny and will be followed by filing of IPR.  

The occasion was also special as Symbiosis announced that it would be filing 26 copyrights and designs prepared by students across various courses under the mentorship of faculty members. These are mainly in domains like technology, healthcare and management.
